It was a chilly; no make that, FREEZING day in December. The sun was just rising and looked like an orange blot in the New Haven skyline. I arrived at a historic home just over the Grand Avenue Bridge. I hauled my ridiculously heavy makeup bag up the wooden steps onto the frost-encrusted porch. One of these days I swear I’m going to figure out what makeup from my arsenal I can part with to lighten my load. As I walked in, there were photographers, event planners and models floating in. The fun part about being a makeup artist on a creative shoot like this (besides the obvious getting to beautify everyone) is you have the best seat in the house to watch all the magic unfold. Photographers are looking for the best angles and light; event planners are busy creating and being critical of their every place setting, models are sitting in my chair with their eyes closed as I apply the makeup. I’m just watching it all come together. As I apply winged eyeliner to the gorgeous redhead’s eyes, dab cream blush on the striking blonde’s cheeks, I’m also observing the planners from Always and Forever Weddings LLC create their masterpiece by placing the Magnolia-Vanilla cupcakes (baked by our very own Tiffany Farley of The Modern Lens) on milk glass stands, delicately tuck Baby’s Breath into old glass medicine bottles and tie whimsical ribbons around the backs of antique chairs from which the handmade “Bride and Groom” frames hang. I look to my left and see one of the photographers contorted in an odd position all in the name of the perfect shot. A final swipe of lipstick, Chanel Excessive to be exact, and the models are ready to step into their gowns. Silk, ruffles, layers and pearls all provided and styled by The White Dress by the Shore. Everything is romantic just as the story, The Notebook, goes. I have pure love for this shoot that was made possible by Karen Stott of Karen Stott Photography and Alicia Candelora of No Eye Has Seen Photography.
