Wedding St. George Greek Hall New Britain CT By Visual-Obsession Modern Photography

I love what I do because of awesome brides like Ewelina. Fun, beautiful, a wonderful bridal party, the makeup and getting ready was just so much fun. Ewelina and her now hubby, Adrian chose the St. George Greek Hall for the venue and my dear friends from Visual-Obsession for the photography. You have to head on over to their blog to see the full day which I heard included “girls dancing in the street, guys climbing the walls, the usual stuff:)

It’s a C10 Bridal Posedown

So, there’s this photographer running around Hartford with hot pink hair and wears Converse shouting about her love for lighting and keeping it real in photos. Sound like a superhero in Gotham City? Sort of. Carla Ten Eyck holds workshops for photographers and this times it’s about “posing” the lovebirds. Not her usual stance, as I said, she likes to keep it real and natural but sometimes you need to give guidance to get the shot just right. This workshop was at Hartford City Hall and the stunning model is none other than Brooke of Brooke Allison Photography with her husband (good sport that he is). Brooke wore her own lace gown she wore for her wedding 4 years ago and had a beautiful bouquet made of, wait for it…cabbage! Is it not beautiful? Makeup and hair was done by yours truly. Um, that’s me, Erin. You can follow the random shouts and squeals of over joy from Carla or you can just view the images below all via Carla Ten Eyck.

The Notebook Inspired Photo Shoot

It was a chilly; no make that, FREEZING day in December. The sun was just rising and looked like an orange blot in the New Haven skyline. I arrived at a historic home just over the Grand Avenue Bridge. I hauled my ridiculously heavy makeup bag up the wooden steps onto the frost-encrusted porch. One of these days I swear I’m going to figure out what makeup from my arsenal I can part with to lighten my load. As I walked in, there were photographers, event planners and models floating in. The fun part about being a makeup artist on a creative shoot like this (besides the obvious getting to beautify everyone) is you have the best seat in the house to watch all the magic unfold. Photographers are looking for the best angles and light; event planners are busy creating and being critical of their every place setting, models are sitting in my chair with their eyes closed as I apply the makeup. I’m just watching it all come together. As I apply winged eyeliner to the gorgeous redhead’s eyes, dab cream blush on the striking blonde’s cheeks, I’m also observing the planners from Always and Forever Weddings LLC create their masterpiece by placing the Magnolia-Vanilla cupcakes (baked by our very own Tiffany Farley of The Modern Lens) on milk glass stands, delicately tuck Baby’s Breath into old glass medicine bottles and tie whimsical ribbons around the backs of antique chairs from which the handmade “Bride and Groom” frames hang. I look to my left and see one of the photographers contorted in an odd position all in the name of the perfect shot. A final swipe of lipstick, Chanel Excessive to be exact, and the models are ready to step into their gowns. Silk, ruffles, layers and pearls all provided and styled by The White Dress by the Shore. Everything is romantic just as the story, The Notebook, goes. I have pure love for this shoot that was made possible by Karen Stott of Karen Stott Photography and Alicia Candelora of No Eye Has Seen Photography.

Featured By The Modern Lens

Beyond excited to be featured on the blog of the lovely Tiffany Farley from The Modern Lens. Tiffany and I met at Pursuit 31, an amazing retreat for women in photography, where I had a blast doing makeup on the models (to learn more about the experience click here). Tiffany and I kept in touch afterwards and she had asked if I’d be interested in doing makeup for her rockin Senior Portraits. These are not your ordinary, sit and pose with a stiff smile portraits. She takes it to a whole new level. There’s stylizing and personality poured into each photo. Imagine seeing your “baby” in the light they were meant to be seen in, as the unique, amazing, young adult they are!? So, in a word, YES, yes, I would love to do makeup for you, Miss Farley! Check out our little Q&A she put together regarding makeup, thoughts on beauty and just some fun banter by clicking here. And do yourself a favor, check out her site – it’s pretty rad and also her head shots done By No Eye Has See where I had the pleasure of providing makeup.
